Genovina is a self-taught artist and 10-year Long Island City, Queens resident. Her recent work is characterized by a careful building process-slowly exposing the subjects in the paint that are often not quite human in form, but altogether human in sentiment. The tale of Kaluaiko'olau, a Hawaiian who defied authority to live and die on his own terms. With text based on the words of his wife Pi'ilani, who followed him to Kalalau, a beautiful and remote valley on Kaua'i. Introducing the 1950s sitcom that Ionesco and Sophocles would have written if Ionesco and Sophocles had been writing sitcoms in the 1950s... THE BLUE PUPPIES CYCLE. It's not unlike The Electra Saga, except for the all-powerful blue dog. And there's a human inkblot. Linda Post's installations are three-dimensional time-based experiences that emerge out of an investigation of the spacial qualities of audio and video and resonate in relation to shared cultural experience. |
