Tara O'Con - Walk It Once
Thursday, June 5 - Saturday, June 7, 2008 8PM

With special guests Kilometers (Thurs June 5), White Blue Yellow and Clouds (Friday June 5) and new video works by Patrick Smith, Clay Franklin, Signe Baumane, Jen Scaturro and Leat Klingman. Walk It Once is a journey into a world governed by the incessant needs of its three inhabitants to test their physical boundaries against the contained architecture of their environment. Slowly and meticulously they push forward searching for ways to deal with, and overcome the metaphorical obstacles before them - like attempting to penetrate the concrete floor. Head first. Yet instead of being frustrated by the impossible, they are drawn deeper into themselves, relishing each moment of obsessive investigation. O'Con's mesmerizing visual imagery of unnatural bodily positions and painstaking tasks aims to examine how long one can stick with a situation, exhausting all of the possibilities until a transformation happens - if it ever really does. *This work was developed in part through a Dance Theater Workshop Fresh Tracks Creative Residency, with funding from The Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation. impressive bodily control in near-imperceptible shifts of position—Roslyn Sulcas, NY Times |
