Genovina is a self-taught artist and 10-year Long Island City, Queens resident. Her recent work is characterized by a careful building process-slowly exposing the subjects in the paint that are often not quite human in form, but altogether human in sentiment. This process does not dictate to the canvas, but allows one development to guide the way to the next clutch of possibilities. Continuing in this spirit, the works do not control the viewer, but actively invite interpretation and empathy.
